Did You Know?

- 99% of all the paper we use comes from trees. Only 1% is from recycled sources.
- On average every American uses over 730 pounds of paper. A 12-foot high wall stretching from New York City to Los Angeles California could be built with office and writing paper that is wasted.
- America uses on average of 300 million rolls of fax paper. This is enough to go from the Earth to the Moon 26 times.
- If every copy machine in the United States made 5 less copies per day we could save 1.4 million trees.
- If every family used 1 paper or canvas bag for one trip to the grocery store, we could save 60,000 trees.
- To make each week's Sunday newspapers 500,000 trees must be cut down.
- If you had a 15-year old tree and made it into paper shopping bags you would make 700 of them. But a grocery store could use all of them in under an hour!
- The average family throws away 13,000 pieces of junk mail per year. Say NO to junk mail!
- Plant a tree or two! Start or join a planting bee. Take your children with you and teach them the importance of caring for nature and the planet. Planting trees gives oxygen and life to humans, wildlife and also the planet. Without trees, there would be no life.
- Every year in April, Keep Odessa Beautiful partners with the City of Odessa Parks Department to plant trees for the Annual Arbor Day Event. Come join us!
