Water Conservation

Keep Odessa Beautiful is actively involved in promoting public awareness on the importance of preserving one of our natural resources:  water!  In partnership with the Permian Basin Master Gardeners, Ector County Extension Service and the Permian Basin Water Task Force Conservation Committee, public education is achieved through various avenues.

One program is the public recognition of homeowners that demonstrate a water-wise landscape at their home.  The homeowner is recognized with a framed award and a month-long yard sign featuring their home as the Water-Wise Yard of the Month.

This program is a collaborative partnership among Keep Odessa Beautiful, Permian Basin Master Gardeners and the Ector County Extension Service.

The Permian Basin Water Task Force Conservation Committee is actively involved in public education through television and newspaper public service announcements regarding lake level reports; partnership with local nursery providers to promote water-wise plants (plant lists available at register check outs) and indoor and outdoor water conservation tips for residential, commercial and general public.  This Task Force is comprised of both Odessa and Midland representatives from City Utility Departments, Texas Department of Transportation, City Parks Departments, Keep Odessa Beautiful, Keep Midland Beautiful, Permian Basin Master Gardeners, Ector/Midland County Extension Service and UTPB Center for Energy & Economic Diversification.
